Stop & Shop announced it will close 32 of its underperforming grocery stores in five New England states by the end of the year.

The community grocery chain, which is owned by Ahold Delhaize USA, announced plans Friday to close in these states:

“Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we’ve developed as a neighborhood grocer for more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers and communities,” said Stop & Shop President Shoppe, Gordon Reid. “As we announced in May, Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy foundation for our brand’s future growth.”
